„art is in people’s daily life“ Bety Pujol Cajal, choreographer and dancer _ Wien 30.12.2021

Dear Bety, what is your daily routine now?

My routine depends a lot on my projects, it is almost never the same, but I usually try to wake up early to organize my day while having breakfast. Then I study and work on my projects and then train and / or rehearse and then go home to cook and have time with my partner.

What is particularly important to all of us now?

A complicated question to answer, if we refer to the current situation I think that each person has the beliefs and knowledge of it to make their decisions, which does not allow me to generalize and give a subjective opinion of what everyone needs to do. I can only say that we need to be aware of taking care of ourselves and our loved ones, whatever the decision we make regarding the pandemic, we must be aware that something is happening in the world and it is up to us as a society to get ahead, not to blame the other for what he does or does not do, we must evaluate what we are doing or not doing ourselves.

We will all now face a new course and a new beginning, both socially and personally. What will be essential and what role will art play in this?

Whether society accepts it or not, Unconsciously, art is in people’s daily life. Listening to music, singing, dancing, reading every time we want to express our emotions in some unconventional way we are making art. The role of art for the emotional aspect is incredibly necessary. Art offers a psychological prevention mechanism. It allows exposure to fear and anxiety situations, gives us models to express emotions and favors empathic contact with others, helping interaction with others and emotional understanding of oneself.
