Liebes Lîla Collective, wie sieht jetzt Euer Tagesablauf aus?

Als freischaffende Künstler*innen sieht unser Alltag selten gleich aus. Wir bewegen uns zwischen verschiedenen Jobs, Proben, organisatorischer Arbeit und dem Versuch, unserem eigenen Training und unserer eigenen Regeneration Raum zu geben. 

Was ist jetzt für uns alle besonders wichtig? 

Solidarität. Einander zuhören, aufeinander zugehen, Geduld haben. Für uns selbst und vor allem füreinander einstehen. 

Vor einem Aufbruch und Neubeginn werden wir jetzt alle gesellschaftlich und persönlich stehen. Was wird dabei wesentlich sein und welche Rolle kommt dabei dem Tanz/Theater/Schauspiel, der Kunst an sich zu? 

Durch die Veränderungen in unserer Welt stehen wir täglich vor neuen Herausforderungen, die uns dazu bringen, unsere Perspektiven und Werte immer wieder zu hinterfragen. Kunst – und in unserem Fall der Tanz – ist für uns ein Medium, durch das wir diese Themen und aufkommenden Fragen ausdrücken, erforschen und Raum für Austausch und Diskussion schaffen können.

Tanz berührt uns auf einer anderen Ebene und ermöglicht es, Inhalte auf einer fühlbaren, intuitiven Art sichtbar zu machen. 

Wir versuchen beweglich zu bleiben – körperlich, emotional und gedanklich – und Veränderungen nicht nur auszuhalten, sondern aktiv mitzugestalten.

Q: In different places, you pose this question, which is rather odd for an artist: „Could we be without art?“ You speak of being stuck with the dilemma „Does it make a difference what I do, is it worth doing?“ Do you still have doubts about making art today in the society we’re living in? 

A: Every day of my life I think about that. It’s the question that has accompanied me my whole life. Mary Catherine Bateson said something that meant a lot to me: „Experience is the best teacher, but only if you do your homework, which is reflection.“ It’s not about self-doubt. It’s sort of thinking, how does this work? What does it do for people? What does it do for me? Why am I still interested in it? I guess I ask these questions because I don’t ever want to be doing this just because it’s „my job“. That was the whole point of doing it in the first place – that I didn’t want to have my job. I didn’t ever want to be in the position of just doing something on autopilot. I wanted to be doing something that made me feel fresh each day, that kept me looking at things and kept me alive, really. And so, part of the question I’m asking is, is this work that I’m doing, this practise of being an artist, is it still fulfilling that function for me? Am I still getting that from it? I’m happy to say that I am here at the moment still.

Zur Person/über mich:  Lîla Collective, founded by Vienna-based artists Lio Jakob and Betty Pester in 2024, explores the intersections of movement, identity, and connection. Their work draws from contemporary and House Dance while blending diverse influences to expand their movement language.

In 2024, they held residencies at RAW Matters x Brunnenpassage in Vienna and Silk Fluegge in Linz, during which they created works such as Patchworks and Silent Collaborators, presented at Brunnenpassage, Kultursommer Wien, and “Quality Street” at Bears in the Park Studio.

In 2025, they continued their artistic research with a residency at Territori-di-Ricerca, where they developed their new piece In Conversation, which will soon be performed at Off Theater Wien.
