Hi Lucie Schreiner, what`s your routine at the moment?
My daily routine is a loom that intertwines threads of art, study, work, self-care, and household commitments. I begin my day with the first light of morning, enjoying a comforting coffee beside my husband. At this moment, we share gestures of affection while I lovingly attend to my two adorable cats and carefully water the plants that adorn my space.

As a student of Architecture and Urbanism, class days transform into an enriching journey at the university. Immersed in studies, I seek to enhance my knowledge, preparing myself for the academic and professional challenges that unfold. This academic journey also serves as a bridge between art and Geography, my initial field of study.
On non-class days, my passion for creating woodcuts comes to life. Each engraving becomes a vivid expression of my thoughts and creativity, providing deep moments of immersion and artistic freedom. These works, often from generous matrices, such as my latest piece measuring 1.40x180cm, reflect my reflections on life, capturing the intersection between the human, especially the feminine, the mechanical, and the divine. Natural elements pulse through the compositions, making each animal and plant a link in the grand symphony of life.

The timeless dance between past and present manifests through mechanical and technological elements in my works. Gears, cogs, and both antique and contemporary devices emerge as witnesses to time. The pieces I am currently working on feature an illuminated portal, an epiphany of hope. The radiating light symbolizes the wisdom that guides and illuminates, connecting us to a deeper understanding of the harmonious coexistence among all beings, a lesson that transcends cultural and temporal boundaries.
These works represent an artistic testimony to the urgency of preserving and caring for the life that unites us, encapsulating the essence of all creation.

What`s now particularly important for all of us?
It is difficult to mention just a single answer. I present here some things that I consider important for us now: Peace, Love, Knowledge, Justice, and Art.
In a world marked by conflicts and instabilities, peace is fundamental and urgent.
Compassion and mutual understanding are crucial for building inclusive and tolerant societies. Promoting love can contribute to creating a better world, starting in our homes and workplaces with the people around us.
In a context of rapid technological and social changes, knowledge plays a crucial role in addressing contemporary challenges.
Ensuring justice is important to combat inequality and promote more just, free, prosperous, and respectful societies for all forms of life.
Amidst adversities and challenges, art provides inspiration, expression, and reflection. It has the power to transcend cultural barriers, stimulate creativity, and foster empathy. Art can also be a tool for addressing social issues, provoking reflection, and driving positive change.
New start, new beginning. What will be essential and which roles will art play on society?
We live in an era of profound transformations in various aspects. In this dynamic scenario, art emerges as a beacon amid the storm of the contemporary world. It reveals itself as an authentic and powerful expression, offering us a means to understand and process the complexities that surround us or simply to comfort and provide a respite. As Friedrich Nietzsche once said, „Art and nothing but art! It is the great enabler of life, the great seducer of life, the great stimulant of life.“
The diversity of artistic forms serves as a mirror of society’s emotions, concerns, and aspirations. Art can be sweet, gentle, and beautiful, but above all, it can be rebellious and challenging. This ability to challenge conventional thinking is crucial to instigating change and promoting progress, both individually and collectively.
Art transforms into bridges that connect people in a special way, offering emotional and intellectual support amid transformations. The shared appreciation of art creates common ground to explore experiences and perspectives, generating new ways of thinking and acting. In this context, art inspires and fuels the flame of hope, providing alternative insights, solutions, and reflections in the face of challenges, motivating people to move forward even in the presence of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
It can be affirmed that art is like the philosopher’s stone, possessing the power of transmutation. Its force propels changes in various aspects, whether in the social or personal sphere. Art plays a crucial role in transformation, whether in appreciation or creation, providing self-expression and self-exploration. It triggers processes of discovery and maturation, allowing people to find new perspectives on themselves and the world around them. New ways of thinking and new paradigms are built and shared by diverse groups, making art a powerful tool to drive social changes.
Thus, during periods of change, art plays a multifaceted role. It is a means of expressing feelings, emotions, and thoughts, as well as a source of human connection, inspiration for hope, and a driving force for transformation. Art enables a new beginning filled with possibilities, showing us that building a better world is in our hands.
What are you reading currently?
At the end of the year 2023, I received as a gift in asecret friend prank the book „The Barefoot Architect“ by Johan Van Lengen, and I am currently immersed in its reading. Johan, an architect and urbanist born in the Netherlands, devoted the majority of his life to Latin America. In 1987, he established residence in Brazil and founded the Institute of Intuitive Technology and Bio-Architecture – TIBÁ, promoting a more integrated architectural approach with nature.
With 369 pages divided into 10 chapters, the book delves into bioarchitecture, explaining and exemplifying traditional and modern housing techniques. Using materials such as earth, bamboo, wood, sisal, as well as less eco-friendly elements like plaster and cement, Johan provides insights into the construction of green roofs, wood-burning stoves, solar heaters, and teaches adobe manufacturing. He also addresses issues related to water and sanitation, all designed according to local climatic characteristics.
The work not only highlights the importance of creating impressive structures, Johan emphasizes that true architecture lies in finding simple, sustainable, and harmonious solutions that naturally integrate with the environment and people’s lives. Johan emphasizes that the manual was created to instill confidence in those who dream of building, offering an understanding of the relationship between housing and its surroundings, exploring limits and possibilities consciously.
Which quote, text will you propose to us?
„The Barefoot Architect“ is a technical book filled with profound teachings about sustainable living, respecting human beings and their surroundings. Therefore, it is challenging to encapsulate its essence in just one sentence, but I believe that through this book, Johan Van Lengen leaves a great legacy. Especially in a time when the Earth is calling for more care. Bioarchitecture practices not only promote efficiency in resource use but also embody a holistic approach that respects and integrates with nature, minimizing the negative impact of construction.
Moreover, Johan Van Lengen’s ideas have significant implications in the context of housing and urban development. By advocating for more conscious architecture, he contributes to the creation of more balanced and resilient communities, considering not only the physical structures but also the social and environmental impact
